Millionaire Fair Shanghai changes its name into ※The Fair§
Millionaire Fair Shanghai, China*s leading luxury lifestyle fair, has announced it will change its fair name into ※The Fair§. Millionaire Magazine will also undergo a name facelift; starting from the next edition in October, the lifestyle magazine will also be published as The Fair. The Chinese names of both the magazine and the fair (※fu shi§) will remain unchanged. The next edition of The Fair will take place in the Shanghai Exhibition Center on 10-12 October 2008.
The name ※The Fair§ was chosen for being distinctive yet simple and therefore easy to remember. ※The new name can also be associated with a certain prestige, as we feel proud of the success of our previous editions§, says David Zhong, CEO of VNU Exhibitions Asia, the organizer of the Millionaire Fair Shanghai. ※We aim at bringing the finest and most stylish brands from all over the world in touch with an audience of China elite: the ※cr豕me de la cr豕me§ all gathered in one single event.§
Cultural difference
Zhong continues: ※It goes without saying that changing our brand name after 3 years of building on strong brand awareness and preference has not been an easy decision. Millionaire Fair and Millionaire Magazine are well know throughout China, and of course we also benefit from the strong international network of Millionaire Fairs in major cities such as Moscow (Russia), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Munich (Germany) and Kortrijk (Belgium). China is a highly potential, but different market however. Ever since we have introduced the names Millionaire Fair and Millionaire Magazine in China, we have received frequent feedback from the market that our name would be too strongly connected with money rather than an elegant lifestyle. The cultural background causes the Chinese wealthy to be more low profile and less extravagant than for example the Russians, where the name ※Millionaire Fair§ in fact work very well. In China, the current name makes some people decide not to visit our fair, whereas they could potentially be very interesting clients for our participants and sponsors
In order to keep our international ties, however, we will still be part of the Millionaire Fair network. ※In marketing communications to the luxury market, we will add the tagline ※in association with Millionaire Fair§, in order to emphasize the ties with the successful international network of luxury fairs. Our Chinese audience will only be targeted under our new name however. We are convinced that The Fair 2008 will attract a new group of visiting high net worth consumers that our returning participants have not yet seen before.§
Zhong quickly adds that the name change does not mean the concept of the event will change. ※In the past year we have already communicated frequently about the importance we attach to conveying the message that with abundant wealth comes social responsibility. We see it as our responsibility to communicate that rich people*s life should be about elegance and acting socially responsible rather than just living an extravagant lifestyle. We have therefore organized a wide range of charity events for good causes such as the Special Olympics and the Shanghai Charity Foundation. A name with a strong connotation to abundant wealth does not match this message, which is why we have chosen to change our name. The Fair will be the same concept as Millionaire Fair Shanghai, and will be organized by the same team. In fact, we will work with an even stronger passion for bringing our clients in touch with China*s premier consumers during the next edition, to be held again in the Shanghai Exhibition Center from 10-12 October, 2008.§
Magazine
Not only the name of the Millionaire Fair will be changed. Also the printed sister of the fair - Millionaire magazine - will be renamed to ※The Fair§. The Fair magazine under its new name will continue to write on people passionate about the finer things in life, and to publish stories covering brands that excel by their exclusivity and style.
The Chinese name of both the Millionaire Fair and Millionaire Magazine, ※fu shi§, will remain unchanged.

Review of Millionaire Fair Shanghai 2007
The red carpet walk was even more impressive than the year before, the exhibitor displays even more exclusive and the entertainment more extravagant than ever before. ※Millionaire Fair Shanghai 2007 was incomparable with the previous edition§, is a frequently heard remark from our returning visitors during the exclusive opening evening of the fair: the Millionaire Preview Night 每 VIP Red Carpet Reception.

KPMG: Outlook for luxury brands in China remains positive:
Following the ongoing growth of the Chinese consumer's buying power, KPMG together with Monash University and TNS in China have recently conducted a research on luxury brands in China. KPMG states the increased buying power paves the way for luxury brands to invest in China. Companies such as Louis Vuitton, Bally, Gucci and Ferragamo were among the firsts to invest in China more than 10 years ago.
The research carried out by TNS surveyed more than 830 people, all respondents were between the age of 20 and 45 living in a first or second tier city and earning a minimum of RMB 3,000 per month. The survey was executed to explore the attitude towards luxury brands among the public. The majority of the respondents regard owners of luxury brands as being successful and having good taste. Also many respondents see one owning luxury items as a social status.
KPMG further stated the outlook for luxury brands remains positive. Consumers show a strong intention to buy luxury goods in the next 12 months, with the appetite for luxury brands relatively similar in among the three largest cities and second tier cities.
The research conducted by TNS confirms the attitude toward credit among Chinese consumers is still somewhat conservative. Their willingness to buy luxury products on credit is still relatively, by expectation for more valuable items such as jewelry.

Great success of Millionaire Fair Amsterdam 2007
Once again the Miljonair Fair has broken every record! The most exclusive and leading luxury event in the Netherlands and far beyond its borders attracted 47,000 visitors this year, two thousand more than last year. "Together, these visitors spent more this year than ever before", says organiser Gijrath.
From 6 to 10 December the Amsterdam RAI was transformed into a true shopper's paradise for today's bon vivants. Over the five-day exhibition period, the 246 exhibitors from both the Netherlands and abroad booked excellent results. Compared with last year, sales were up considerably. Enthusiastic stand holders presented the organisation with sales figures that spoke for themselves. "I am in shock", said Mr Gijrath. According to Gijrath, Lengers Yachts (dealer of Riva, among others) sold a number of boats and yachts. Hessing sold a Bugatti Veyron for 1.2 million euros, as well as a number of Maserati's. The exclusive &Classic Roadster'sports car by Backdraftracing, valued at 100,000 euros, attracted four registrations. According to Benno Leeser, CEO of Gassan Diamonds, more watches and jewellery were sold than ever before. Business was booming for renowned brands such as Rolex, IWC, Breitling, Cartier and Audemars Piquet. There was also great interest in exclusive pianos, second homes abroad, sloops, exclusive pashmina shawls, medical scans and art.
Joan Collins hosted the spectacular opening of the Fair at the sensational VIP night. Attended by more than 6,000 guests, this night has become the party of the year and is visited by many members of the national and international press.
The Fair is a stage for the very top end of the luxury segment. This year it featured no less than 77 national and international launches. Visitors enjoyed themselves for five whole days, feasting on the unique entertainment, stylish ambiance, sensational performances by stars - including Tony Hadley, Trijntje Oosterhuis, The Three Degrees, Edsilia Rombley, and Nurlaila Karim - and culinary highlights; all of which provided a level of glitz and glamour that had never before been seen, and that included live fashion shows by top brands and famous fashion designers such as Sheila de Vries, Addy van den Krommenacker and Frans Molenaar.
The last day of the Fair, Business Monday, was devoted entirely to networking. Famous speakers like John van den Heuvel, Wubbo Ockels, Jerry Langelaar and Don Schothorst addressed the audience from the main stage. Toine van Peperstraten interviewed famous sportsmen from the &Sportcaf抄'. Regilio Tuur, Ruud Gullit and Fatima de Moreira de Melo talked about their careers and questions put to them by Peperstraten. The day was concluded with the presentation of the &Networker of the Year'award by the Editor in Chief of Miljonair, Onno Aerden. Aerden presented winner Harry Mens with a cup designed by Gassan Diamonds.
Yves Gijrath and Hans Bakker, Chairman of the Board of Amsterdam RAI, also signed a contract for the next three years. The Fair will remain at Amsterdam RAI until 2010. Yves Gijrath: "The RAI is the only organisation that has the location, logistics, internal organisation and three-dimensional cooperation we need to host such a grand event". Hans Bakker is also very happy with the cooperation and delighted that the RAI was chosen as the location to hold the Miljonair Fair. "The Miljonair Fair is one of the most spectacular events in the Netherlands, which proves that Amsterdam RAI ranks among the top Fair and events locations in the Netherlands".
This was the sixth edition of the Miljonair Fair, and the fifth occasion that it was held at Amsterdam RAI. Following its successful launch in 2002 at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam, GMG Events chose Amsterdam RAI because of overwhelming interest and the organisation's ambitions for the 2003 event. Amsterdam RAI will continue to be the proud host to the Miljonair Fair.
The seventh edition of the Miljonair Fair will take place next year from 11 to 15 December at Amsterdam RAI. Editions are also being planned for 2008 in Munich, Istanbul, Moscow, Shanghai and Kortrijk.
